n a recent ceremony, the 2023 Lake-Sumter State College Softball team received their 2023 championship rings. The team made history last year by winning their first-ever state championship in the 2023 Florida College System Activities Association, known as the FCSAA. This is a Division II National Junior College Athletics Association Region 8 Softball Championship-winning team.

The team was led by head coach Jay Miller, who did an amazing job getting the program off the ground back in 2015. Since then, the team has grown considerably over the years. ‘Winning the championship was a dream come true for this team and the program. The team’s victory is a source of pride for the college, as it highlights the achievements of LSSC’s student-athletes and the quality of the college’s athletics program,’ said coach Miller in a recent article published by Tom Hagerty.

Players like Kreighton Seinke, Ali Shenefield, Raquel Camuglia, Molly Bender, and Darian Pippin had a huge impact on that team. Many of the members of that team were not just great athletes but even better students who have been successful community members.

Lake-Sumter State College is hoping to replicate the success of last year’s team with this year’s program. The Lakehawks currently sit at 14-14 on the year. The ceremony was the culmination of all the hard work that the team put in. They have set the bar for the future of the LSSC programs. Congratulations to all of the team members who showed up.
