Alec C. Chessari, 28

Occupation: Owner, Chessari Sod Services & Landscape LLC, The Villages

What I do: As a business owner, I wear many hats. I focus on estimates, design, sales and daily problem-solving. It’s quite a full-time job. I also have good people working for me that are experienced in their particular jobs to help collaborate with me.

How I got started: I started working with my father in high school, laying sod. After graduating from FSU with a bachelor’s in sports communications, I felt the outdoors calling me back and decided to start my own business in 2018.

I’m passionate about landscaping and sod services because: I love to be outside and helping people enjoy their homes even more, especially during a time that people are really improving all aspects of their home to enjoy it more. It makes me happy to see the smiles on their faces, hear how much they love their new yards and how much more they are using them now. Your home should be your oasis, not just a place to live, but a place to escape. Your yard extends your living space to the beautiful outdoors here in Florida. And there’s so much that can be done. I really enjoy meeting with them to make their outside goals come true.

My biggest professional accomplishment so far: Starting my own business in 2018.

When I’m not working outside beautifying: I have two true passions being my family and playing golf. My family is the real driving force behind working so hard and with that said, my beautiful wife is my rock. I’m so thankful to be blessed to have her in my life along with our wonderful children. I have a 10-year-old daughter and twin 3-year-old boys. So, between school, extracurricular activities and just having fun, you can imagine how busy we stay.

My first job: Working with my dad laying sod. He taught me a lot about the ins and outs of it. It’s hard work, but I love it. We always had fun. We help each other out when needed.

My local mentor: My mom has always had my back and is still the one I call when I need advice or to work through things.  She’s very business-savvy.  I’ve learned a lot from her and look forward to continue learning from her.

The best advice I’ve received: Live out your dream or you will be working for someone and helping them live theirs.

Fun fact: That I started my own business and it’s still going strong.

If I had a million dollars to give away: I would love to help Veterans get the much-needed emotional support they deserve after going to war. We can only imagine what they have lived through. We owe our freedom and America to them.

Life after 40: I would like to get involved in local community leadership and explore the possibility of eventually moving towards local politics. I’d like to help my community grow for the good of all people.
