40 Under 40: Brianna McLees, 23
Brianna McLees, 23
Occupation: South Lake Chamber of Commerce Marketing & Programs Director
What I do: My job responsibilities include developing and implementing all Chamber marketing strategies, communications, advertising and PR activities. I also coordinate monthly chamber activities, set up and break down events, build relationships with event sponsors and vendors, create appropriate revenue items for each event applicant, send invoices to all vendors, sponsors and attendees and manage timelines, programs and task lists for all Chamber-hosted events. Additionally, I lead all event planning and production meetings and discussions, collaborate with venues to create/revise room layouts/seating arrangements for each event, organize and manage the invitation, registration and attendee check-in processes and am the point person for the Young Professionals Group. Lastly, I serve as the primary source of information for the Chamber related programs, events, and member services; ensuring the Chamber, its members, and the community at large receive timely, relevant communications on key issues impacting the larger business community, both internally and externally.
How I got started: When I went away to college, I became a Florida State Bat Girl. The experience was more than just a job; it was about creating positive and impactful relationships with the fans and the community. My experience in college ignited my passion for community engagement and building meaningful connections. After returning to the town I grew up in, I faced a surprising realization: I knew more people in a place that wasn’t my home (Tallahassee) than in the town I grew up in. After noticing how much Clermont had evolved, I felt a strong urge to reconnect with my growing community. With perfect timing, a job opportunity opened at the South Lake Chamber of Commerce shortly after I moved back and after meeting the team, I was overwhelmed with excitement. I had found a group of people that were just as passionate about the community and growth as I was. In January 2024, I was offered the position as an Office Manager and transitioned into the Marketing & Programs Director position in August. I’ve been honored to work alongside incredible individuals like David Colby, Shahanaz Rahaman and Nathanael Edmund. They are amazing people who selflessly dedicate so much time to their community.
I’m passionate about my role because: South Lake Chamber of Commerce events create networking opportunities and foster connections within the community. It’s rewarding to see local businesses thrive from their participation in the South Lake Chamber.
My biggest professional accomplishment so far: Transitioning from Office Manager to Marketing & Programs Director within my first year at the South Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Outside of work: I love playing bingo with my grandfather and aunt on Tuesdays.
My first job: Working in the country store at Lake Catherine Farms when I was 14 years old.
My local mentors: Jamie and Dustin Lowe are two community leaders that I deeply admire. Their work ethic and passion for their community has taught me so much over the years. They have an incredible ability to see the best in everyone they meet and always stay authentic to themselves. Their resilience and creativity as small business owners inspire me, and I aspire to give back to the community in the same impactful way they have.
The best advice I’ve received: “Let go and let God.” This quote has helped me shift my mindset from a place of anxiety to one of trust and faith in God’s plan for me.
Fun facts: I have a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, I am SCUBA-certified and when I was on the bowling team in high school, we won districts and made it to states.
If I had a million dollars to give away: I would support causes that are close to my heart. My love for animals evolved into a passion for marine life after my experiences with SCUBA diving. I would be honored to support marine animal rescue and invest in marine biology research, helping ensure a brighter future for marine ecosystems.
Life after 40: The future I envision for myself is always changing. One week I can see myself living on a boat traveling the world and then another week I see myself married with two kids headed to baseball practices. Ultimately, I don’t know where my life will take me, but I want to stay true to my heart and surround myself with uplifting people. If my future continues to be as fulfilling as it is now, I see myself being a very happy 40+ year old person.
