Jen Abston, 39
Occupation: Artist, Entrepreneur and Owner at Fab Faces Entertainment
What I do: Fab Faces Entertainment is a local, family-owned entertainment company that specializes in corporate and private events in Central Florida and surrounding areas! Our services include face painting, balloon twisting, airbrush art, caricatures, magic and more! I am blessed to have a talented team of local artists. You might even see me face-painting at community gatherings and parties around town, too! I love connecting with people and adding an element of fun to their event!
How I got started: In 2012, I moved to Clermont from South Florida. As a preschool teacher and solo mom of two amazing children, I started face painting at my church and children’s school as a way to supplement my income. With my background in early childhood education and love for the arts, I found my passion in face painting. This inspired me to launch Fab Faces Entertainment so we could serve people on an ever-larger scale!
I’m passionate about making magic because: I absolutely love spreading joy and creating moments that will last a lifetime through arts and entertainment. The best part of my job is getting to be a part of families most memorable moments year after year!
My biggest professional accomplishment: Expanding my business beyond face painting. This has allowed me to connect and collaborate with others in my community on a much larger scale.
When I’m not painting faces: I love to spend time with family, go to the beach, theme parks and travel to places I haven’t been yet!
My first job: I was a waitress at a retirement home when I was 14 years old. My first day was a little rough. I was carrying a tray and when I went to set the drinks down on the table, I spilled cranberry juice all over this sweet lady’s white dress. I was so embarrassed. She was so kind and gracious with me when she didn’t have to be. It was at that moment I saw grace modeled and was encouraged to begin my journey of service to others.
My local mentors: My two biggest mentors who I’m blessed to also call friends are Pastor Dawn Carter and Mo Mydlo. These women have been spiritual sisters to me, great encouragers, and examples of what it looks like to live a God-honoring life.
The best advice I have ever received: I have received good advice from so many amazing people in my life, but the best advice would have to be from other women sharing God’s word with me at times when I’ve needed it most. The verse that comes to me most often that is helpful in all areas of my life is, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5.
Fun fact: In addition to running Fab Faces Entertainment, I am the director of admissions at First Academy-Leesburg. Although I have a pretty full work schedule, I absolutely love what I do! I am passionate about both professions as they give me the opportunity to connect with and help families on a personal level.
If I had a million dollars to give away: I love this question because there are so many amazing nonprofits that are helping families right here in our community. Unforsaken Women’s Corporation, Living Hope Church and First Academy-Leesburg are a few that I would love to bless.
Life after 40: I see my business continuing to grow and expand to serve even more people. I see myself continuing to serve and give back in my community as much as possible. The best is yet to come!
