Jianna Timmons

Age: 24

Career: Choreographer, Educator, Adjudicator and Artistic Director at Artistry in Motion Dance Company

Biggest challenge: Launching A.I.M. during uncertain times tested my resilience and adaptability. It taught me the importance of flexibility, empathy and creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued. This experience reshaped how I lead with greater patience, openness and commitment to inclusion.

Fun fact: I had the unique opportunity to choreograph two halftime routines for the University of Florida men’s basketball games, once as a student and again as an alumni. These experiences taught me invaluable lessons in creativity, leadership and managing large-scale performances, shaping how I approach choreography and artistic direction today.

For Jianna Timmons, dance isnt just an art form, its a lifelong teacher. The founder and artistic director of Artistry in Motion Dance Company (A.I.M.) has turned her passion for movement into a mission to inspire confidence, resilience and creativity in the next generation of dancers.

From choreographing halftime routines for the University of Florida mens basketball team – first as a student and later as an alumna – to earning recognition as a top choreographer, Jiannas journey has been defined by hard work, creativity and perseverance. Winning Miss Sumter County as the first African American woman to hold the title remains one of her proudest milestones.

That moment showed me the importance of breaking barriers and believing in myself,” she says.

Launching A.I.M. during uncertain times brought its own set of challenges and taught Jianna adaptability and empathy as a leader. She learned to create an environment where dancers feel valued and supported by emphasizing patience and inclusivity over perfection.

Her leadership philosophy extends beyond technique. Jianna strives to build a community where dancers can express themselves freely and grow not just as artists, but as confident individuals.

I want my students to feel empowered to find their voice, both on and off the stage,” she says.

When people look back on her career, Jianna hopes they remember her as someone who led with heart. She wants to be known as a choreographer and educator who inspired others to believe in themselves and made a meaningful impact on the art of dance and the lives she touched along the way.

What motivates her most is watching her students thrive.

The moments when they overcome self-doubt and shine on stage. Thats what fuels me,” she says. Seeing their growth reminds me why I do what I do.”
