40 Under 40: Tasia Drayton, 31

Tasia Drayton, 31

Occupation: Founder & Administrator, Compassionate Connections Home Care & Compassionate Livescan and Notary (alongside several other startups)

What I do: As the visionary and administrator of Compassionate Connections Home Care, I oversee the day-to-day operations, which include managing a team of over 60 caregivers, coordinating new hires, conducting assessments for clients, handling payroll, and driving marketing efforts. I ensure our office runs smoothly while providing compassionate care to those we serve.

How I got started: My passion for elder care began in my teenage years when my grandmother suffered a stroke during my 8th grade summer. I spent countless hours in rehab facilities, accompanying her through physical therapy. This experience left a profound impact on me, and I found myself drawn to helping the elderly. Initially, I pursued a career in physical therapy, but later transitioned to becoming a CNA in 2013. I founded my company in 2017, continuing the work that started with my love for helping others.

I am passionate about home health care because: I began as a caregiver myself and quickly realized the profound difference small acts of care and attention can make in someone’s life. I found joy in learning personal details about my clients, like their favorite songs, and forming lasting bonds. Over time, I’ve built a team of caregivers who share this passion, not just for the work but for truly making a difference in the lives of the elderly. For me, it’s about matching the right caregivers with each client and creating an extended family for those we serve.

My biggest professional accomplishment so far: Being selected for this 40 Under 40 list!

When I’m not working: My household is full of creativity and music. My family and I love playing instruments together — piano, guitar, drums and singing. Cooking is another big passion of mine, and I enjoy creating food content.

My first job: I worked at Kohl’s.

My local mentor: While I don’t have a formal mentor, I invest heavily in reading and self-education. I also mentor others, passing on the knowledge I’ve gained over the years.

The best advice I’ve ever received: “Focus on your own path. Don’t get distracted by what others are doing. Perfect what you have, and always choose quality over quantity.”

Fun fact: I’m an introvert with social anxiety — something people rarely believe when I tell them!

If I had $1 million to give away: I would support Veterans mental health and wellness programs via organizations that provide mental health services, PTSD counseling and programs for veterans adjusting to civilian life. I would also take part in a homelessness initiative. I would like to fund a program specifically designed to combat homelessness and helping to secure stable housing, plus offer services to address the root causes of their homelessness, such as mental health support or addiction recovery.

Life after 40: Personally, by the time I turn 40, I plan to have more free time to travel with my husband and children, creating unforgettable family memories. Professionally, I envision at least 15 franchised locations, expanding our services to include skilled care. The revenue from these franchises will help fund my next endeavor: real estate investing. I aim to open independent living facilities and assisted living facilities to offer various levels of care for clients as their needs evolve. Additionally, I plan to start a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the elderly and disabled.
