Leesburg Reuse System to Shut Down August 27-31, Affecting Arlington Ridge and Legacy

Irrigation for Arlington Ridge and Legacy communities will be affected

LEESBURG, FL – Due to ongoing upgrades at Leesburg’s Turnpike Wastewater Treatment Facility, the reclamation system that produces reuse water for irrigation in the Arlington Ridge and Legacy communities is scheduled to be out of service for five days. From August 27 through August 31, no reclaimed water will be available due to the pumping station being offline. As a precaution, affected customers are asked to turn off irrigation systems during this period.

A two-phase project to improve and expand the treatment plant started in 2020. Phase I increased the capacity of the facility from 3.0 million gallons per day (MGD) to 4.5 MGD and upgraded infrastructure. This phase was completed in 2022.

Phase II is currently underway and has reached a point where the contractor must bore a 20-inch pipe through the side walls of the system’s holding pond. In order to complete this work, the water level in the pond needs to be lowered below the entry point of the intrusion and the reuse pumping station must be shut down. When finished, this phase will expand the plant capacity from 4.5 MGD to 6.0 MGD, provide odor control measures and upgrade plant support equipment.

Increased plant capacity is needed to accommodate the growth and development the city is experiencing, especially in south Leesburg.

Out of service dates could change due to weather related issues. Information and updates will be posted on the City of Leesburg Facebook page and website (www.leesburgflorida.gov) as needed. For questions on this matter, please call Al Purvis, City of Leesburg Water Department, at 352-728-9835.
