THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Quez Porter, head coach of The Villages Charter School girls basketball team, has been named the Lake & Sumter Style Magazine’s Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A Preseason Coach of the Year. Entering his sixth season at the helm, Porter has transformed the program into a perennial contender, earning accolades both for his coaching acumen and his character off the court.

Porter, already The Villages’ all-time winningest girls basketball coach, surpassed the milestone last season while guiding the team to one of four winning campaigns during his tenure. His impact, however, goes beyond the numbers. Known for his ability to balance encouragement and discipline, Porter has built a culture of respect, resilience, and excellence.

“Coach Porter is more than just a coach,” said a member of The Buffalo Boosters who wanted to remain annonymous. “He’s a mentor, a role model, and someone who genuinely cares about the success and well-being of his players.”

(Coach Porter is loved by his team, staff and coaches the game the right way.)

The coach’s influence extends to his role as a stepfather to Zion McCray, a senior on The Villages team, and his work in travel basketball. Across the board, Porter has earned a reputation as an approachable and inspiring leader who instills life lessons alongside basketball fundamentals.

“Coaching isn’t just about winning games; it’s about building charcter, teaching discipline, and preparing these young women for life beyond basketball. That’s the real victory.” Winning games is great don’t get me wrong, but i’m here to help these young women become the best versious of themselves.” says coach Porter.

As the Buffalo gear up for the new season under Porter’s leadership, expectations are high both on and off the court. With Porter at the helm, The Villages girls basketball program continues to be a model of success, growth, and integrity. They are already off to a 1-0 start after a dominating win against West Port earlier this week.
