The City of Groveland is addressing resident concerns over unexpected rates and usage reported in October water bills. Mayor Keith Keogh has provided an update on the city’s ongoing efforts to investigate the issue and ensure a fair resolution for all customers.

“We care deeply about our residents and understand the frustration this has caused,” Mayor Keogh says. “Our focus remains on finding answers and taking swift, corrective action where necessary.”

Immediate Actions Taken:

  1. Suspension of Late Fees and Terminations:
Late fees and service terminations have been temporarily suspended until the city verifies the accuracy of the bills and makes necessary adjustments.
  2. Engaging External Expertise:
The city has partnered with a financial consultant to analyze and clarify the unexpected percentage increases.
  3. Water Usage Investigation:
Groveland’s water services provider has been tasked with investigating potential causes of unusual usage spikes in affected bills.
  4. Software Review:
A thorough audit of the billing software is underway to check for coding issues or errors.
  5. Community Workshop Scheduled:
A water workshop is planned for Monday, December 16, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall, prior to the regular Council meeting. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in discussions about the issue and the city’s progress.
  6. Enhanced Customer Support:
Additional staff have been assigned to the Utility Billing Department to ensure prompt responses to phone calls and emails.
  7. Resident Concerns Noted:
Reports from residents indicate unusually high bills, with some alleging charges up to $800. The city has acknowledged these concerns and is committed to resolving them swiftly.

Next Steps:

The City of Groveland is determined to find the root cause of the issue and will provide updates as more information becomes available. “We expect to have some answers for you at the workshop,” Mayor Keogh said.
