The Mount Dora High School boys’ soccer team remains unbeaten, now boasting an impressive 8-0 record to kick off their season. Leading the charge is standout forward Luis Cirilo, who has tallied 11 goals so far. Teammates Jace Moore and Andy Perez are also making their mark, with 8 goals each, while Miguel Petit contributes with 7 goals. Together, the formidable front line has been a key factor in the Hurricanes’ early-season success.

Ranked #60 in the state and #116 nationwide by MaxPreps, the Hurricanes have combined individual talent with team-oriented play to achieve their stellar record. Head coach Ryan Eshbaugh attributes their success to a strong sense of unity and purpose.

“Very proud of my boys and how they have responded to the start of the season.” says head coach Ryan Eshbaugh. “Our strength of schedule is down this year, but the boys are playing well and answering each challenge together. I believe our success is because they are buying into what the coaches are wanting and playing for each other,” Eshbaugh said. “We use the phrase ‘play for each other, not with each other’—each player looks to make their teammate look and play good. The coaches are extremely proud of them because they are putting in the work and doing it in a team-oriented fashion. We have some tough games coming up, which will be great challenges and opportunities to grow. We are grateful for the parents, faculty, boosters, and community because they have been huge supporters of the program.”

The Hurricanes’ dominance isn’t limited to offense. In goal, Ayden Smith has been a standout, logging 377 minutes with 7 saves while allowing only 2 goals. Fellow goalie Preston Ketchem has also been solid, playing 230 minutes and keeping a perfect record with no goals conceded.

Mount Dora’s mix of high-powered offense and staunch defense has the team riding high, with their sights set on continued success. This has been one of the best start’s to a season for Mount Dora in years. It’s great to see them finding success.
