Minneola, Fla. — The Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office announced Lake Minneola High School as the winner of the 2024 High School Voter Registration Challenge, recognizing their outstanding efforts in encouraging civic engagement among students.

The school registered 204 students, representing 14% of its student body, in this year’s challenge. Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays and Assistant Elections Supervisor Steve Hines presented the coveted traveling trophy and a commemorative plaque to Principal William Roberts during the School Board Meeting on December 9.

Principal Roberts was joined at the ceremony by Social Studies Department Chairman Brian Katz and senior student Noel Schnacky, who played a pivotal role in driving the registration campaign.

Winning this challenge is a testament to the commitment of the students and faculty at Lake Minneola High. Voting is one of the most important things that these young students will learn. To have a voice and a say in who runs things is a powerful thing and we are so happy so many decided to register this year.

Lake Minneola High School’s name will now be added to the Supervisor of Elections plaque, listing all past winners of the challenge. The event concluded with enthusiastic applause and a resounding cheer of “Go, Hawks!”

This competition, organized by the Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office, aims to promote voter awareness and participation among young people in the community.
