Lake Minneola High Boys Basketball Team Beats Leesburg For First Time In A Decade
The Lake Minneola High School boys’ basketball team achieved a monumental victory, defeating Leesburg High School 70-68 in a thrilling contest. This marks the Hawks’ first win over their rivals in ten years, with their last win dating back to December 16, 2014.
Junior Tyrell Thomas delivered a standout performance, scoring 27 points and grabbing 8 rebounds to lead the Hawks. Senior Brandon Colbert also rose to the occasion contributing 20 points and 7 rebounds in the hard-fought win. It was a close matchup and both teams did an amazing job under a heavy amount of pressure. Ultimately Lake Minneola was able to seal the deal and came away with the victory.
Tyrell Thomas, a transfer from Davenport High, has been a game-changer for the Hawks this season. Nearing 100 total points on the year, Thomas is proving to be an invaluable asset, currently ranking second in team scoring behind Colbert.
The win puts Lake Minneola at 4-3 on the year. They have a tough game against Cypress Creek at home tonight. Meanwhile Leesburg High is preparing for one of the top rivalry games in all of Florida. They have a date with Eustis High School on Friday night in what should be one of the games of the year in Central Florida.
This was a huge statement win for head coach Ron Brown and his team.
