Beekeepers Association Calls for Support to Launch “Save the Bees” Specialty License Plate

The Florida State Beekeepers Association is rallying support from Floridians to reach its goal of selling 3,000 pre-sale vouchers for the new “Save the Bees” specialty license plate. Proceeds from the plate will fund grants for honey bee research, education, outreach, and husbandry, ensuring the future health of honey bees and the vital ecosystems they support.

With only 880 pre-sale vouchers sold so far, FSBA is urging residents to act now by purchasing a $33 voucher, which will secure the plate’s production and support crucial honey bee initiatives.

Why Save the Bees?

Honey bees play a critical role in pollinating native plants and one-third of our food sources, making their preservation essential to Florida’s environment and agriculture. The funds raised through the plate will directly benefit:

  • Research at the UF Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory.
  • Grants for beekeepers and local clubs to support honey bee health.
  • Statewide education and outreach programs.

How to Purchase a Voucher

Pre-sale vouchers can be purchased online at www.savethebeesplate.com, at local tax collector offices, or as a gift through Florida’s Specialty License Plate Gift Certificate Program. Vouchers are available to anyone with a Florida-registered vehicle, and plates will be issued once the 3,000-voucher goal is met.

Make an Impact

“Many people ask what they can do to help the bees—this is one of the best ways,” said Billy Fussell, District Chair for FSBA and founder of the Lake County Beekeepers Association. “The specialty plate will not only help raise awareness but also provide an ongoing stream of funding to protect and preserve honey bee populations across Florida.”

The “Save the Bees” voucher makes a meaningful gift for bee lovers and environmental advocates. Gift certificates can be purchased through local tax collector offices, allowing recipients to redeem them once the plate becomes available.

Supporters are encouraged to help spread the word by sharing the link www.savethebeesplate.com and promoting the cause on social media using the hashtags #SaveTheBees and #FloridaSaveTheBees. Promotional materials are also available for download on the FSBA website to help raise awareness.

FSBA is a nonprofit organization that supports beekeepers statewide through research, education, and legislative advocacy. With 43 local clubs across Florida, FSBA works tirelessly to ensure the health and sustainability of honey bees.
