South Lake High Girls Basketball Team Finding Success

CLERMONT, Fla. — The South Lake High School girls’ basketball team is finding success this season under second-year head coach Mitchael St. Martin. After finishing 12-11 last year and going winless in district play, the Lady Eagles have turned things around, boasting a 2-0 district record and an impressive sweep of rival Lake Minneola.

South Lake’s latest triumph came on Tuesday night, a 48-32 victory over the Lady Hawks, marking the second win against Lake Minneola this season. Junior Jazmyn Robles led the charge with her consistent scoring, averaging 9.6 points per game and totaling 86 points on the season. Fellow junior Ella Cochran has also been a key contributor, adding 7.2 points per game to the Lady Eagles’ offense.

The team’s success, however, has been a collective effort, with contributions from Ale Franceschi, Zoe Sheffield, and Molly Burke, who have provided depth and versatility on both ends of the court.

The girls have worked hard and seem to have bought into the system. Sweeping Lake Minneola was a big step for South Lake High, but there’s still more to prove in the coming weeks especially as South Lake High prepares for districts. South Lake’s last district tournament win came in January of 2023 so they would very much like to win one this season.

Next up for the Lady Eagles is a Friday night showdown against East Ridge High School, a team that handed South Lake a 27-17 loss earlier in the season. The Lady Eagles hope to generate more offense this time around to avenge their previous defeat.
