Nearly Complete Pickleball Facility in The Villages in Limbo After Company Declares Bankruptcy
The half-complete indoor pickleball facility that was under construction near The Villages faces an uncertain future following The Pickleball Club’s announcement that it is going out of business. The company, which had been constructing a 40,000-square-foot climate-controlled facility on a 4.7-acre parcel off County Road 466, confirmed via LinkedIn that it lacked the financial resources to continue operations and has begun liquidating its assets.
“It is with great sadness that we must announce that we have closed the company,” the LinkedIn statement said. “We did not have sufficient financial resources to continue operations. We have started the process of liquidating the company assets, including our two club locations in Lakewood Ranch and Port St. Lucie.”
The facility was set to be Central Florida’s largest indoor pickleball complex. Plans included 16 championship-grade indoor courts, two outdoor courts, bocce courts, a café, a pro shop, and a second-floor lounge with a bar and conference space. A press event in April celebrated the project’s halfway point and was slated for completion in late 2024.
However, with the company’s bankruptcy and liquidation, the future of the half-finished project is in question. Stevens Construction, which was contracted to build the facility, has not confirmed whether construction will continue. Without another company stepping in to take over the project, it is assumed that work on the site is halted indefinitely.
The fate of the partially constructed facility remains unclear. The property may be sold as part of the company’s liquidation process, but it is uncertain whether another entity will step in to complete the project. Residents and pickleball enthusiasts, who were excited about the opportunity to play in a professional-grade indoor environment, are left wondering what will become of the building.
The Pickleball Club’s closure has disappointed many in The Villages and surrounding areas, where pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports. The project was seen as a much-needed solution for year-round play, particularly during Florida’s hot and stormy summers.
Additionally, the closure affects the company’s existing locations in Lakewood Ranch and Port St. Lucie, which also shut their doors abruptly. Reports from Port St. Lucie indicate that members were given less than 24 hours’ notice of the closure, leaving many frustrated and disheartened.
As the liquidation process unfolds, questions remain about the future of the pickleball facility and its impact on the local community. Will another company take over the project? What happens to the half-finished building? These uncertainties linger as residents await further updates.
