LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is celebrating the retirement of Bria Barry, a dedicated law enforcement professional who served the agency for over 26 years.

Barry began her career in April 1998 as a detention deputy in the Lake County Jail, earning dual sworn status under Sheriff Knupp in October 1999. During her tenure at the jail, she worked in key areas such as booking, transportation, extradition, and classification. Her versatility and leadership paved the way for her transfer to the South Lake District Office in November 2020, where she would ultimately finish her career.

At the South Lake District Office, Barry played an integral role in community engagement, helping organize events like Project Kid Connect and providing vital services such as walk-in assistance and fingerprinting. Her commitment to fostering strong community ties extended to her involvement with Central Florida Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), where she worked tirelessly to support survivors and their families.

In recognition of her contributions, Barry was recently promoted to President of Central Florida C.O.P.S., a role she will continue to serve in as a volunteer for the sheriff’s office.

Barry’s retirement marks a new chapter in her life, one filled with family and personal milestones. Her son began college in 2024, and she looks forward to cheering him on at countless lacrosse games and spending quality time with him during her well-earned retirement.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for Barry’s exceptional service, stating, “Her dedication and connections with Central Florida C.O.P.S. have been an asset to our agency, allowing us to better support survivor families.”

Congratulations on a great career. Thank you for everything you have done for the community.
