The 10th annual Running of the Georges 5K and Kids Fun Run kicked off the festivities of Georgefest 2025 in grand style this morning in Ferran Park. The event, which attracted runners and families from all over the region, was a perfect way to start the celebration of George Washington’s birthday.

The 5K race, which began at 8:00 a.m., saw an impressive turnout of participants eager to challenge themselves in the fast-paced run. Early registrants received a race shirt, chip timing, and access to live results, ensuring that each runner had a memorable experience. Participants also received a finisher certificate and a personalized 20-second video clip of them crossing both the start and finish lines.

Caleb Gruner, of Eustis FL claimed first place in the 5K, finishing with a time of 19:07. Jeff Reinke, of Mount Dora came in second place with a time of 20:37, and Gabriel Garback, of Eustis, came in third place with a time of 20:52.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm from both participants and spectators,” said Sam Brinson, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Eustis. “This year’s Running of the Georges 5K was a fantastic way to kick off Georgefest, and we’re grateful to everyone who made it possible, from our volunteers to our sponsors.”

Following the 5K, the Georgefest Kids Fun Run took place at 10:00 a.m. This one-mile event was designed to give children a fun and energetic introduction to Georgefest.

“We are so happy to see so many families participating in today’s events,” said Brinson, “It’s great to see the next generation of runners get excited about Georgefest and active living!”

Georgefest 2025 continues through Feb. 15 – 22nd, offering a variety of activities for all ages. The annual festival is known as the longest continuously running George Washington’s Birthday celebration in the country.
