Lake County Schools announced a slate of major projects this week under its new five year plan including the construction of a new high school in South Lake County that will be fully funded by the 2028 school year.

The district also plans to open a new elementary school in the Wellness Way area by 2029, addressing rapid growth in the region.

North Lake schools are set to benefit as well. Eustis Elementary School, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, will be rebuilt in the coming years, while Eustis High School will see a new classroom addition, expanded parking, a practice field, field house, weight room and public restrooms. The project will cost an estimated $9 millions dollars.

South Lake High School is slated for upgrades to its athletic facilities. Permanent restrooms will replace portable units at the school’s tennis courts and softball field. The project carries a special twist: it will be built by the South Lake High Construction Academy. The district will cover the design, surveys and materials, while students and staff provide the labor.

Lake County Schools Superintendent Diane Kornegay says the projects reflect a commitment to improving facilities countywide while also giving students hands-on learning opportunities.

(The Mount Dora High football stadium is among the Lake County facilities that will get much needed upgrades.)

Superintendent Kornegay also stated that the new Beverly Shores campus should be open by next year and will offer students a new modernized campus to learn at. Beverly Shores students are currently spending the year at the old Fruitland Park Elementary school campus.

Also planned are upgrades at Mount Dora High’s football stadium and Tavares Stover Field which will also be improved. Cypress Ridge Elementary School is in line for a renovation as well. The project should be fully funded by the 2029-2030 school year.
