Schofield Road in Clermont Officially Designated as Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway

Schofield Road in Clermont has officially been designated as the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway following a unanimous 5-0 vote by the Lake County Commission.
The decision came after an hours-long and often heated public hearing where residents debated whether the late conservative activist should be honored with a road naming. Commissioners ultimately agreed the dedication was about condemning political violence rather than endorsing political views.
Commissioners confirmed there will be no fiscal impact to taxpayers.
Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was killed earlier this month during a campus event at Utah Valley University. Days later, President Donald Trump announced he would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
The newly installed sign now marks the scenic Schofield Road, a symbolic tribute commissioners said is meant to promote dialogue and unity over division.
