Tavares Wins Two National Awards at the America in Bloom Ceremony

America's Seaplane City has earned national recognition at the 2025 America in Bloom Awards, receiving two honors that highlight the city's innovation, community pride and operational excellence.
Tavares received the award for "Most Impressive New Project or Program" for its new Public Works Operations Complex. Led by Public Works Director James Dillon, the 44,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility officially opened on Oct. 4, 2024. Designed with resilience and innovation in mind, the complex now serves as a central hub for five critical divisions: Fleet Management, Streets Management, Solid Waste Management, Facilities Management and Parks Operations Management.
The facility also includes a partnership with Lake Technical College to co-locate transportation workforce training programs, making it a regional hub for diesel and automotive technician education.
The City of Tavares was also named winner in the population category for communities with 20,000 to 25,000 residents, showcasing its outstanding livability and civic engagement.
Additionally, Traci Anderson, Parks Operations Manager for the City of Tavares, was recognized for founding the nation's first America in Bloom chapter. The city was further honored for outstanding community involvement and received a nomination for Best Use of Technology in Public Works.
"These awards reflect the vision of our City Council and the tireless efforts of our city staff," says John Drury, City Administrator. "We are proud to be recognized nationally for our commitment to building a vibrant, connected, and sustainable community."
