The South Lake High Eagles claimed the district championship this past Friday night, exploding on offense and defense, and beating Horizon High School 54-14. This gives the Eagles back-to-back district championships.

The Eagles offense put up over 600 yards and the defense shut down the Horizon offense in the second half securing the homecoming victory.

Junior Tre Kelly threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, as well as rushing for a touchdown. Tre connected with senior receiver Isiah Pina three times in the end zone. He also threw a 79 yard touchdown to Keydrick Powell to cap the scoring.

Keydrick had another big night with 7 catches for 187 yards. Malik Holman rushed for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns as well. Tre connected in the back of the end zone to Isaiah with just 15 seconds left in the half to give the Eagles a 28-14 lead at halftime.

To start the second half, the South Lake defense forced the Horizon offense into a three and out. The Eagles were in command for the rest of the game. Defensive standouts where Julian White, Ahviome Scott, Corey Scott, Tyson Williams, Chase Coello, Isaiah Desir and Jesse Barker.

“The touchdown during our two minute drive drill at the end of the first half putting us up by two touchdowns and our defensive stop to start the second half was the difference in the game,” says South Lake head coach Brad Lord. “Our defensive coaches made great adjustments at the half and our offensive coaches called a great game. We have a ton of work to do to get ready for East Ridge.”

The game against East Ridge High will certainly be a physical one. Both teams come in with high flying offenses and it will be fun to see which team comes out on top. East Ridge is coming off their first loss of the 2025 season.
