Leesburg Honors Veterans With Downtown Banners

The City of Leesburg is honoring veterans with photos of those who have served and continue to serve our country with beautiful banners that adorn the light posts downtown on Main Street. The added recognition is a personalized way to honor the men and women who have served our country as members of the military.

Leesburg’s Street Pole Program invited members of the community to purchase a banner that depicts an image of the veteran and their name. Reaction was so great to the program, the city added spots along Main Street.
The added banners are a perfect way to highlight those who fought for our country on Veterans Day.

Leesburg Mayor Alan Reisman is extremely proud of the project, stating, “The Veterans Day banners lining Main Street are more than just decorations; they’re a visible symbol of Leesburg’s profound gratitude and respect for the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our nation. What began as an idea to honor our local heroes quickly grew into a citywide tribute, beautifully brought to life by our Leesburg Special Events team. Each banner tells a story, reminding us of the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment that protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. It’s inspiring to see the City of Leesburg come together in such a meaningful way to celebrate and recognize those who have given so much for our country.”

Nov. 11 officially became Veterans Day in 1954, replacing what was formerly known as Armistice Day, which recognized the day World War I fighting ended and was created to honor those who served during that war. Patrons visiting downtown have the opportunity to view the tributes to veterans as they walk along Main Street through the month of November.
