First Indoor Pickleball Facility Opens in Leesburg

Drew and Jessica Byer saw the need for a place people could play pickleball year-round without worrying about weather or a lack of lights that would hinder the game. After searching for the perfect space, Yellow Dot Pickleball was born. Yellow Dot is the first indoor pickleball courts in Leesburg, located at 105 Park Center St., Suite 107.
“We spent months searching for the perfect spot to house the courts and feel like it was divine intervention when we found this spot,” Drew says.

The location is in an industrial park in west Leesburg.
Pickleball has become the fasting growing sport in the United States, and the passion is not dwindling. According to the Association of Pickleball Professionals, there were 48.3 million adults that played pickleball at least once in 2023, which was a double digit increase over the year prior. The love for all things pickleball is expected to continue to rise, and with that increase, more courts and facilities will need to be built to meet the demand.

In Florida, where outdoor activities are popular, being able to continue your favorite pastime inside is a plus, especially when Florida thunderstorms pop up out of nowhere.

The space has five full size courts and one warm up court. They offer a place to play rain or shine seven days a week. The Byers had a soft opening October 15 and are now open for normal operating hours, which are 7am to 10pm. Yellow Dot offers unlimited play for $75 a month and for those that prefer morning hours, they offer a 7am to 11am unlimited monthly plan for $60. They plan to also offer special events that will include tournaments such as King or Queen of the Court, Power Play, Round Robin and more.

So, what exactly is pickleball? The typical pickleball game is played with four people, two on each side of the court which is 20 feet wide by 44 feet long. While there are similarities to tennis, there are many differences as well, one being the use of a paddle instead of a racquet and pickleballs are plastic with perforated holes. The sport can be played by all age groups and www.pickleheads.com shows that while males make up most players at 59.1%, women are not far behind at 40.9%.
