40 Under 40: Mica Gilles

Mica Gilles
Age: 37
Career: Author, speaker, Co-Owner of Gilles Deluxe Properties LLC and Campus Executive Director at Sumter Senior Living
My motivation: What drives me most is my faith, my family, and the belief that God has given me a purpose bigger than myself. Every day is an opportunity to serve, whether it’s my residents, my team, my sons or my community. That responsibility fuels me to keep showing up with passion and excellence.
Fun fact: I was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and moved to the U.S. as a child. I still speak Haitian Creole fluently and love blending my cultural roots into everything I do, whether it’s fashion, community events or even the names of my businesses.
Mica Gilles brings purpose, presence and an air of possibility into every room she enters.
A powerhouse executive director, author, community and business leader, Mica is the kind of woman whose story doesn’t just inspire, it propels.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she moved to the United States as a child, a change she calls the defining moment of her life.
“That transition taught me resilience, adaptability and the importance of creating opportunities where none seem to exist,” she says, adding that how her parents handled themselves during that time made a big impression on her. “Watching my parents rebuild their lives from the ground up instilled in me a deep sense of determination and faith. It shaped the way I approach leadership today with gratitude, courage and a relentless drive to make every challenge an opportunity for growth.”
Today, she channels that drive into every corner of her work, whether leading at Sumter Senior Living, expanding Gilles Deluxe Properties or taking the microphone as a speaker determined to pull others upward. Her mission? Nothing short of transformative.
“I hope my work inspires others — especially women, minorities and young leaders — to dream bigger than their circumstances and to pursue leadership roles with confidence and integrity,” she says.
Her vision involves communities that flourish, businesses grounded in purpose and generations who rise because someone showed them they could.
Still, her journey hasn’t been without its lessons. The result? A mindset that focuses on progress, not perfection. It’s a mindset she encourages in those she mentors.
Personally, a huge challenge she faced was overcoming what she calls “analysis paralysis.”
“Learning to trust my instincts, lean into faith and take action despite uncertainty transformed the way I lead,” she says.
Asked what she hopes her legacy will be, she answers with the clarity of someone who leads with both heart and intention.
“I’d like people to say that I was a leader who elevated others, built opportunities where none existed and created spaces where people felt seen, valued and inspired to grow,” she says.
Personally, and behind the titles, accolades and ascension, Mica is a woman grounded by faith and family. Whether it’s her residents, her team, her sons or her community, she shows up, fully, faithfully and with unmistakable fire.
“What drives me most is my faith, my family, and the belief that God has given me a purpose bigger than myself,” she says. “Every day is an opportunity to serve.”
Additionally, she brings her heritage into the spotlight with pride.
“I still speak Haitian Creole fluently and love blending my cultural roots into everything I do,” she says.
