Caregiver Appreciation Gala Honors Local Heroes Serving Seniors and Veterans

Compassionate Connections Home Care recently brought together caregivers from across Lake, Sumter and Marion counties for the Caregiver Appreciation Gala, an evening dedicated to recognizing those who quietly and consistently make a difference in the lives of seniors and veterans throughout the region.

Founder and CEO Compassionate Connections Home Care, Tasia Drayton, says the Caregiver Appreciation Gala is rooted in both gratitude and personal experience.

Before becoming a business owner nine years ago, Tasia began her career as a CNA and caregiver, giving her firsthand insight into the emotional and physical demands of the profession and how often that work goes unrecognized. She built the company with a promise that caregivers would never be invisible, a commitment reflected in the gala, now in its second year. Drayton notes that the event is one of the few corporate-level caregiver recognition ceremonies of its kind in the region and represents the culture she has cultivated locally and is now carrying into a growing national franchise.

This year also marks a milestone for Tasia personally, as she recently became the youngest Black woman to franchise a home-care company in the United States, a business built from the ground up in Lake County.

Hosted by Compassionate Connections Home Care, the gala focused not on formality, but on gratitude. Caregivers were celebrated for their compassion, reliability, and commitment to clients who depend on them for daily support, dignity and companionship. While the evening included awards and recognition, the underlying message was that caregiving is not just a job, but a calling.

The organization presented several awards highlighting individual excellence and service.

Caregiver of the Year

Honors went to Ronita McCullough, who has served with Compassionate Connections for more than three years. Known for her consistency and dedication, Ronita has earned the trust of her clients, who describe her as proactive, thoughtful, and truly part of their family. A previous Pillar Award recipient, she was recognized as a natural choice for the organization’s highest caregiving honor.

Caregiver of the Month for December

Adrienne White was recognized for her exceptional reliability and commitment while caring for two veterans. Her steady presence and high-quality care earned praise from both clients and colleagues.

Exceptional Service Award

Angela Beecher of Ocala received the Exceptional Service Award for her outstanding dedication to clients in the area. Angela was recognized for continually going above and beyond to ensure the comfort and well-being of those she serves.

Heart of Gold Award

The Heart of Gold Award was presented to Lily Taylor, whose compassion has made a lasting impact while caring for a veteran with complex needs, including PTSD and dementia. A former Rising Star Award recipient, Lily continues to be described by families as an essential and trusted presence in their lives.

Client Choice Award

The Client Choice Award went to Christina, who served as Lead Caregiver throughout the year. Often the first caregiver families meet, Christina supported clients across multiple counties and was selected based on direct client feedback. She is now permanently placed with a client who describes her as irreplaceable.

Impact Award

Behind-the-scenes leadership was also recognized. Jasmine Kelly, office manager, received the Impact Award for her leadership, collaboration, and influence on company culture and operations. Her efforts have strengthened both internal teams and the families they serve.

Compassion Award

The Compassion Award was presented to Margie O’Keefe, RN, whose part-time role carries a full-time presence. Margie was honored for her advocacy for veterans and families, along with her dedication to continuity of care and hands-on support.

Silent Star Award

Lorrie Roe received the Silent Star Award, recognizing her quiet dedication and dependable excellence. Her client’s heartfelt testimonial reflected the trust and appreciation she has earned through gentle, consistent care.

Pillar Award

The Pillar Award was presented to Tranee Woods, who has provided years of steady care to the same client. Her reliability and emotional presence have made her an integral part of her client’s daily life and support system.
