After Four Years in Downtown Tavares, The Argonaut Bar & Lounge Has Closed

A social media post announced the news that The Argonaut Bar & Lounge has closed and thanked patrons for four years of support and memorable moments.
“It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing our little submarine has taken its final voyage,” the post read. “The time has come to surface and disembark.”
Over the past four years, The Argonaut became known for its immersive submarine theme, handcrafted décor, interactive elements and prohibition-era atmosphere. The venue hosted first dates, proposals, holiday celebrations, burlesque shows, bar crawls and even a wedding.
“We have cherished every moment,” the owners wrote.

The Argonaut was created by owner David and Hilary Perry as a continuation of the fictional story behind the neighboring Nautilus Coffee Co. David, whose background is in theme park construction, designed and built the immersive environment centered around fictional adventurers Henry and Jane Nautilus and their submarine, the Argonaut.
When the venue opened, David told Style that creating an experience was just as important as serving food and drinks.
“I think when it comes to businesses in this day and age of technology and social media, it’s not good enough to simply provide a great product or service anymore,” he says. “That demographic wants an experience with it. They want to be entertained, and that’s part of our goal.”

Although the owners described The Argonaut as a success, they said the decision to close came as their focus shifted to their other brands.
“It is not an easy decision to make as the Argonaut has truly been a success and one we are grateful for,” they wrote. “However, our focus has shifted solely to our other brands. We need all hands on deck and all of our focus to embark on a different adventure. We are truly grateful for the community support. It was by every measure a success.”
The announcement ended with a fitting farewell saying, “Thank you again from the depths of our hearts and bon voyage!”
