Sorrento Elementary School has earned an “A” grade for the 2025-26 school year, marking the first time the Lake County school has received the top rating since 2014.

Principal Nicole Brouhard announced the achievement, crediting high expectations from teachers, staff, students and the community.

“As the proud principal of this incredible school, I have eagerly awaited for this day to come!” Brouhard says. “It is from the belief that all children can and will learn and the incredible high expectations from our teachers, staff and community. It is with the most excitement that I announce we have earned a school grade of an A for the first time since 2014!”

The school came within 1% of an “A” last year. Brouhard took the helm with a focus on raising expectations and building a strong culture of learning, praised the collective efforts that turned that near-miss into success.

“This accomplishment is the direct reflection of your unwavering commitment and tireless efforts,” she says. “We have come so far.”

Principal Brouhard is a longtime Lake County educator and resident. She began her career in 2007 as a fourth-grade teacher at Triangle Elementary. She later held instructional leadership roles and served as assistant principal at Cypress Ridge Elementary, where she helped guide the school to an “A” grade in 2018 and a Florida School of Excellence designation in 2019.

A University of North Florida graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Brouhard earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2014. She and her husband and son live in the Mount Dora area.

Looking ahead, Principal Brouhard says the school’s mission remains focused on making excellence the norm.

“I truly believe in the power of collaboration to ensure all students succeed,” she says.

Sorrento Elementary is a place where success is expected. We are so proud of the students, faculty and parents for helping achieve this milestone! Way to go!
