Rocky and the Rollers Celebrate Decades of Playing in The Villages with Wildwood Event

For more than 25 years, Rocky and the Rollers have been part of the soundtrack of The Villages, filling dance floors with classic hits and earning a loyal following that spans generations of residents.

On Thursday, the longtime favorite brought that familiar energy to Sumter Senior Living in Wildwood, where residents, families and guests gathered to celebrate the re-grand opening of the community’s newly renovated independent living neighborhood.
The afternoon featured live music, dancing, refreshments and guided tours of the refreshed Sumter Grand Independent Living community. While some guests explored the updated gathering spaces, others headed straight for the dance floor as Rocky and the Rollers performed the oldies that have become a staple of entertainment in The Villages.

The re-grand opening marked the completion of an extensive renovation designed to enhance the independent living experience while updating gathering spaces for residents and visitors.
“This re-grand opening represents much more than a renovation. It reflects our ongoing commitment to creating an exceptional place our residents are proud to call home,” Executive Director Mica Gilles says.

“Every enhancement was made with our residents in mind, from creating warm, inviting gathering spaces to elevating the overall living experience. We are excited to celebrate this new chapter alongside our residents, families, associates and the greater Villages community.”
Residents were excited to take part in the celebration, including friends “Chip” and “Tom.”
“I love it here because I’m a lifelong bachelor,” Tom says. “I get my meals prepared the way I like them and someone comes in and cleans my apartment.”
The two say the social opportunities are just as important as the amenities.
“We get to go on trips all over Florida,” Chip says. “I think we have been to every state park and even Cape Canaveral.”

Guests toured the updated common areas, met members of the leadership team and learned more about the community during the afternoon celebration.
Located near Brownwood Paddock Square, Sumter Senior Living offers independent living, assisted living and memory care. The 298-residence community has been managed by Grace Management since 2020.

Throughout the afternoon, couples danced, friends sang along and visitors paused between tours to enjoy familiar songs that have entertained Villagers for decades, giving the celebration the feel of a neighborhood gathering as much as a grand reopening.
