Barrel racing start: I’ve been around horses my whole life, but I didn’t start riding consistently until fourth grade. 

Proudest accomplishments: Qualifying for the State Finals five times and the World Championships four times all represent countless hours of hard work, dedication and sacrifice. None of it would’ve been possible without the support of my parents, Katelyn and Neil Stephens, and my coach Melissa Green of Racewood Acres Equine. They have believed in me every step of the way.

My journalist persona: I’m a freelance writer for my school newspaper. Because I’m taking AP and advanced classes to complete as many graduation requirements as possible, I couldn’t fit journalism into my schedule. 

I look up to: Kristin Hanchey. She’s incredibly humble, whether she wins or loses and she’s one of the smoothest riders I’ve ever watched. I met her during my first NBHA State Finals in 2022 when I fell off my horse during my run. Kristin came over and told me even the best barrel racers fall off and that you’re not a real cowgirl until you do. 

In my free time, you’ll find me: With my horses, spending time with family or at the baseball fields cheering on my brothers.

Best advice for my younger self: Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone’s journey is different. I’ve learned that your character is far more important than how good you are.

Surprising fact: I was adopted by my mom Katelyn from the age of 3 and she’s treated me like her own child from day one. I also have siblings from my biological mom’s side and have relationships with them to this day. My brother (Slayde), sister (Sawyer), brother (Bo) and brother (Tommy) were all adopted by different families. Having family on both sides has been a very important part of my life.
