This issue feels a little extra special because we’re introducing something we’ve never done before at Style: 40 Over 40.

Over the years, we’ve featured 40 Under 40, celebrating young professionals who are building careers, businesses and making their mark on our community. But somewhere along the way, I think we forgot that some of the best chapters come later.

There is something pretty great about being over 40. You know yourself better. You’ve learned a few lessons, probably made a few mistakes and hopefully stopped worrying quite so much about what everyone else thinks. Success also starts to look a little different. It’s not always about climbing the ladder. Sometimes it’s about building something that lasts, changing direction, giving back or finally having the confidence to go after something you’ve always wanted.

That’s what I love about the 40 people you’ll meet in this month’s inaugural 40 Over 40 feature. Their stories are all different, but each is a reminder that there is no expiration date on ambition, reinvention or making an impact. I am confident this feature will become a Style tradition.

We’re also celebrating our local business community with our annual Business Spotlight special section. These are the businesses, owners and professionals who help make Lake and Sumter counties such a great place to live. As a local business owner myself, I know how much work happens behind the scenes, and I’m always proud every time Style gives these businesses a platform to tell their stories.

Finally, we’re taking an in-depth look at an important topic for many of us – Florida’s property tax amendment and what it could mean for homeowners.

This issue is packed, and I hope you enjoy getting to know the people and businesses behind the pages.
