For more than 30 years, Dr. Jamie Haines has helped people with neurologic conditions improve their mobility, preserve their independence and continue doing what matters most to them.

Haines, 55, is a neurologic physical therapist and board-certified neurologic clinical specialist with Achieve Wellness and Physical Therapy. Her patients include people living with Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries.

“I am driven by bringing the latest evidence-based research, education, and treatment strategies directly to my patients, empowering them with the knowledge, exercise, equipment, and resources they need to achieve their goals,” she says. “The most rewarding part of my work is coaching people to move with greater confidence, maintain their independence and continue doing the things that matter most to them.”

Before moving to The Villages in December 2025 to be closer to her parents, Haines served as an associate professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Central Michigan University. There, she taught future physical therapists, developed wellness programs with her students, provided pro bono services and conducted research aimed at improving the lives of people with neurologic disorders.

Her daughter also completed the physical therapy program in which Haines taught and is now a pediatric physical therapist.

“It was amazing to not only have her in my classroom but also watch her develop her passion for working with kids,” Haines says.

A defining professional moment came when Haines and several former students presented their Parkinson’s disease research at the 2026 World Parkinson Congress in Phoenix.

“Watching the students I mentored grow into outstanding clinicians, researchers, and leaders in our profession has been the most rewarding achievement of my career,” she says. “There is no greater joy as an educator than seeing your students carry forward a passion for helping others.”

Since arriving in the area, Haines has worked to make specialized neurologic rehabilitation more accessible throughout Lake and Sumter counties. Through Achieve Wellness and Physical Therapy, she provides mobile outpatient care in clients’ homes while also sharing information with support groups and clubs throughout The Villages.

“I believe the greatest impact I can make is by sharing my expertise, empowering people to live more independently and creating opportunities for education and connection,” she says.

Haines encourages young professionals and community leaders to seek mentors, surround themselves with knowledgeable people and remain open to learning throughout their careers.

“When I taught physical therapy students, I often told them, ‘Hang out with the smartest person in the room, and you’ll always learn something valuable,’” she says. “Stay curious, seek out those who inspire you, and never stop learning.”
