When the housing market crashed in 2007, Michelle Krueger was working for a Central Florida custom home builder. Watching people get laid off, Michelle took a client’s advice and started her own business, Bright Side Services, Inc.

“I started off as a window washing company and those clients encouraged me to get into cleaning because they wanted their homes as clean as their windows,” says Michelle. “About two years in, the business morphed into more cleaning than window washing.”

She never imagined it would grow like it has, but she’s closing in on two decades in business.

“This was a God thing. From the day I quit the development company, I’ve never had one day I didn’t have work,” says Michelle. “The customers just called as if God was laying them in my path. Today, this business supports 20 employees, and none of them work a second job.” 

The secret is hiring and training happy people who love to clean. 

“Our cleaning technicians are the highest paid in the area. This is not a minimum wage job; it’s a career,” says Michelle, who was part of the cleaning team for the first 14 years. “Some cleaning companies subcontract, but all my cleaning technicians are W2 employees, bonded, insured and background checked.”

The business specializes in residential cleaning. Pricing is based on square footage and the level of cleaning requested. For example, with priority cleaning, the client decides what is a priority, while a deep cleaning involves hands-on wiping of all surfaces to remove build-up. Most clients start with a deep clean first and then rely on recurring maintenance cleans going forward.

The business model is to use a solo cleaner. “We send one person to your home. It’s a higher level of accountability, and they have a system,” says Michelle. “Our work has a 24-hour satisfaction guarantee. If we miss something, we will come back at the earliest time convenient for you and make it right.” 

Michelle believes in giving back and partners with Cleaning for a Reason, a charity organization that provides free housecleaning for people going through cancer treatment.
