For those who might not know Issac Farling, you’re about to find out why he’s one of the most exciting football prospects Lake County has to offer. Issac has emerged as a powerful and consistent force for Mount Dora Christian Academy football. Through just four games, he has rushed for 1,181 yards and eight touchdowns on 93 carries while topping 100 yards in every game so far this season.

The junior running back’s production has helped the Bulldogs to a 4-1 start. Issac combines size, speed and strength in a way that makes him difficult to bring down, according to coach Tackett.

“What makes Issac so dominant is the combination of his power and natural running ability,” Tackett says. “He runs with tremendous strength, but he also has great instincts and feel for finding running lanes. That combination makes him extremely difficult to tackle and allows him to consistently create yards even when there isn’t much there.”

Coach Tackett described Issac’s best attributes as that rare blend of physical tools. “He has a rare combination of all three, which allows him to run with power while still having the speed and athleticism to create explosive plays.”

While his on field statistics are strong, coach Tackett praised Issac’s character. “Issac is a good, loyal, and hardworking young man. As a player, he’s dependable and willing to put in the work to help his team succeed. As a person, he’s someone who cares about the people around him and is extremely loyal to his teammates and coaches. He’s the kind of kid you enjoy having in your program because you know he’s going to show up, work hard, and be there for his team.”

Issac began playing football at the age 4, introduced to the sport by his parents, Keith and Heidi Farling. His favorite aspect of the game is “the hard work and preparation and how much work goes into playing.”

Issac has particularly enjoyed playing for MDCA. “Playing at Mount Dora Christian Academy has been amazing, he says, “All the love I receive from my coaches and the athletic department. The game environment is incredible and the fans are awesome!”

He has been shown exceptional love by MDCA Athletic Director Megan Ziegelhofer who Issac and many on campus call Mama Z. “She tells me to always be the good person you are, never stop working hard, ask for help when you need it, lead with integrity, love Jesus, and control what you can control!”

Coach Tackett has watched Issac develop since eighth grade. “It’s been really rewarding watching Issac grow and mature, both in the classroom and around campus. He’s developed not only as a football player, but as a student-athlete and young man.” Coaching him, Tackett added with a smile, is “a lot of fun! He makes every play call look correct.”

While he’s learned many lessons on the gridiron, one of the most important lessons he has learned comes from Coach Tackett: “It isn’t gonna be handed to you. You gotta work for it everyday!” Issac also says as he draws inspiration from those who doubted him. “All the people who doubted me and said I couldn’t do it is what inspires me and pushes me daily.”

His role models are his father Keith and Coach Kolby Tackett. Issac says “They are great Dad’s and good men.” He continues to look up to both of them each and every day.

Issac also maintains a 3.5 GPA and balances football with side work in lawn care and construction.

His favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 60:22. “The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation; I am the Lord, in its time I will do this swiftly.”

As Issac has reached his junior year, he offers some great advice to younger players: “Live your life with character, honor, and discipline when the time is right God will know and bless you.”

The early success this season has created a positive atmosphere for the Bulldogs. “The vibe in the locker room is great. We all have a tight bond that we’re looking forward to growing each day,” Issac says.

Issac’s hot start has rubbed off on his teammates as TJ McCormick has rushed for over 200 yards with 4 touchdowns. Defensively Robert Lebright leads the team in tackles. Luke Scheveling, Brixton House and Blake Lowell have also had a big impact, while Jacob Bloder has caused two fumbles.

Despite the good start, Coach Tackett noted the team’s first few weeks have been inconsistent despite the talent and work ethic. “When we come out focused, prepared, and ready to play, we’re a very good football team. When we don’t, we can be pretty average. The key for us moving forward is learning how to bring that same level of focus and intensity every week.”

MDCA continues to be ranked as one of Florida’s top FHSAA Independent football programs. The team finished as the Sunshine State Athletic Association State Champion Runner-Up last year before transitioning back to the new FHSAA Independent league this season. The Bulldogs continue to be one of the teams to watch as the second half of the season approaches.
