Mount Dora Christian Academy Boys Baseball Win District Championship

The Mount Dora Christian Academy Boys Baseball team won 2A District 6 District Championship. Master’s Academy played better than many had thought but it was not enough to take down the Bulldogs. MDCA won the game 7-2. It was a night where everything just seemed to go right for the Dogs. They now improve their record to 17-9 and await their opponent in the FHSAA 2A Regionals this weekend when the brackets are released.

At 11-14 Master’s Academy would have likely had to win this game to have any shot at the FHSAA Playoffs but sadly it appears their season may be over now. MDCA meanwhile has had so many stars on this team in the 2023 season. Of course Dallas Dale II who is headed to LSU to play for the Tigers and Collin Priest were neck and neck as the team’s best players this year. Dale had 29 RBI’s 31 Hits and 33 Runs Scored. Collin Priest had 26 RBI’s 29 Hits and 36 Runs Scored.

Both Priest and Dale II had some of the best batting averages in Lake & Sumter County. Both were above .400 with Priest taking the slight edge with a .414 to Dale’s .403. The pitching was also good all year for the Bulldogs which helped them mighty down the stretch. Especially in this game against Master’s, a team that was starting to come together late.

MDCA will now wait to find out who they play in the FHSAA Tournament Regional Rounds. No matter who they face, MDCA should put on an impressive show. How deep this team can get in the playoffs remains to be seen but the way this team has come together like a family has been so much fun to watch. Head Coach Jason Sanders and his incredible team of Assistant Coaches including Josh Wood and Ted Koeller have just done a masterful job getting the most out of their players.

We want to congratulate the MDCA Baseball team on a successful regular season and District Championship and we look forward to the noise this team will make in the playoffs!
