The Mount Dora Christian Academy Softball team won the 2A District 5 Championship. The team went up against a difficult opponent Geneva who gave the Lady Bulldogs everything they had. In the end the Bulldogs were able to pull off an impressive victory and clinch the District Championship Trophy!

Geneva came into the game 15-2 on the season. They had only lost twice this year but the Bulldogs did well against them. The final score was 13-7. Pitching was not the strong part of this game but the batters certainly were. MDCA took advantage of the poor pitching from Geneva early. In the first 3 innings of the contest MDCA scored 2 runs in the 1st, another 2 in the second and another 3 in the 3rd inning.

The score was 7-0 as MDCA headed into the 4th. Geneva was able to add a few runs in the next two innings to cut the lead from 7-3 but in the 6th inning the Bulldogs piled on 4 runs and made it 11-3. By the time the 7th inning came around there was little Geneva could do. They put their best foot forward and went down swinging. Geneva added 4 runs to make it 13-7 but the comeback was not to be.

MDCA went on to clinch the District Championship and cap off an amazing run. Next up will be the FHSAA State Tournament. The pitching for the MDCA Bulldogs was electric this year led by Senior Wynter Craft. She ended up with 66 strikeouts and a 3.84 ERA. Meanwhile the batters lead by Freshman standout Lily Bryant led the team in RBI’s with 31 she also led the team in doubles.

Freshman Katie Bayly also had a great year in the batter’s box. She led the team in batting average with .465. She had 40 hits, 36 runs scored, and 15 RBI’s. Junior Brooke Moss, Senior Sammi Thomas and another Freshman Emmi Bowman contributed immensely this year. Overall the MDCA team is young. They have a ton of talent coming up in the next few years so this team is stacked.

MDCA moves into the FHSAA Tournament now and awaits to see who they are playing. We congratulate the MDCA Lady Bulldogs on their victory and we look forward to watching them in the playoffs! Go Bulldogs!
