Former Wildwood Quarterback Nate Mikell Transfers to Southeastern University
Former Wildwood Middle High School quarterback Nate Mikell has decided to transfer from Gannon University to Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. The Redshirt sophomore made his decision late last week to transfer back to Florida to play his sophomore year for the Flames.
Mikell helped the Wildwood Wildcats to a 9-2 record in 2020 helping the team qualify for the 1A class Playoffs. During his career Mikell completed 172 of 266 attempts. He passed for 2,475 yards and threw for 16 touchdowns. Mikell was remembered for taking care of the football as he only had four career interceptions during his high school career.
Mikell also played for the Wildwood basketball program. He was an excellent basketball athlete but his heart was always set on Football. He played 7 on 7 football in the spring time for Wildwood. He was also a track & field athlete running the 11 and 4X4. He has stated, “All I need is someone to believe in me as I believe in myself and take that chance on me and I will not let them down.” Southeastern appears ready to take that chance as Mikell has successfully entered the transfer portal and made a transfer to SEU for 2024.
During 2021 Mikell appeared in four games for Gannon. He then decided to Redshirt the 2022 season and will be returning to the Central Florida region for the 2024 season where he will play for the Southeastern University Flames an NAIA program located in Lakeland, Florida.
Mikell is a native of Summerfield, Florida. He brings a ton of versatility to Southeastern University who are coming off a disappointing 2023 season which say the Flames win only 5 games. Not counting the Covid-19 impacted season, that is the worst season the Flames have ever had as a program finishing just 5-5.
Mikell will join Will Bohn from Celebration High School, Austin Wallace from Cardinal Newman and Henry Austad from Foundation Academy among many other quarterbacks that the school has on the roster.
The competition for the QB position will be fierce in the 2024 season but Mikell should be up for the challenge. He produced so many memorable throws and Wildwood just hasn’t been the same since he graduated a few years ago although coach Vincent Brown an admirable job with what he has had.
We look forward to having Nate Mikell back in town and hope that we see him on the field with the Flames in 2024!
