As the anticipation builds for the upcoming production of “Shrek the Musical Jr.,” students at Mount Dora Christian Academy in Mount Dora are diligently preparing for their big roles. Through weeks of rehearsals and dedication, these young talents are gearing up to bring the beloved characters to life on stage.

In an exclusive interview, the students shared insights into their journey of preparing for the production.

Ethan O’Neal, who plays the captain of the guards, described the process as “a really long drawn-out process,” emphasizing the dedication required for the three nights of performances. They acknowledged the ups and downs encountered during weeks of preparation but highlighted the rewarding payoff at the end.

“At the end of the day, we are all working together to create something great,” Ethan says.

When asked about the reason for theater, Emerson Largey, who will play Princess Fiona, mentioned that theater brought her out of her shell.

“It really teaches you how to kind of come out of your shell and a lot of life lessons,” Emerson says. “And it’s just really fun. And it’s also good for social skills, not just on stage, but off stage, and it’ll help you be more confident.”

Olivia Thompson, cast as Pinocchio, is a seasoned performer with years of theater experience. She reflected on her journey from nervousness during her first show to the exhilaration of opening night.

“Once you work with them, and you learn how to do it, and you meet new people, you have fun with the cast and then at the opening night, it’s so fun when you put it on.”

As we draw closer to opening night for “Shrek Jr. the Musical,” which opens March 22, these talented students promise to deliver unforgettable performances.
