Retired LCSO PIO Frederick Jones to Sign Copies of New Book at Tavares Public Library on Saturday
Frederick Jones, a retired Public Information Officer for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, will be signing copies of his newly released book, “Laughing Out Loud While Dying Inside,” and greeting the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 8 at the Tavares Public Library, located at 314 N. New Hampshire Ave.
“Laughing Out Loud While Dying Inside” delves into Jones’s extensive 24-plus-year career with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, from which he retired in December 2023. The book provides a look into the often unforgiving profession of law enforcement, highlighting the traumatic incidents officers face and the resilience required to navigate such a challenging career.
Jones invites readers to join him on a journey through his career, sharing how he processed trauma and emerged resilient. His experiences span a variety of roles including Detective, Patrol Deputy, Patrol Supervisor, Correctional Officer, and School Resource Deputy. Jones’s most passionate pursuit, however, has been his effort to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement.
An advocate for officer wellness, Jones is a nationally certified Emotional Intelligence trainer, De-escalation Specialist, and Subject Matter Expert. He has also served as a Crisis Intervention Training instructor, teaching a nationally recognized de-escalation course.
Jones’s dedication to his profession and community has earned him recognition on both local and national levels. In addition to his law enforcement career, he is a motivational speaker and instructor who has presented at TED, various conferences, and schools across the U.S.
Jones is a graduate of Flagler College with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. Currently, he resides in Thailand with his wife, Dana, and his dog Michonne. He spends his time volunteering at schools and orphanages and documents his journey in Thailand on his YouTube channel, Far Away Fred.
The Tavares Public Library event will offer a unique opportunity for the public to meet up with Jones, purchase a signed copy of his book (limited available), and learn more about his remarkable career and contributions to law enforcement and community relations.
