Beacon College has officially broken ground on its new Inclusive Intramural and Fitness Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically to support the needs of neurodivergent learners. This marks a significant step in the college’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment for all students.

(The groundbreaking ceremony was kicks off a years worth of work. The new building should be ready by August of 2026.)

The new center will provide students with a safe, supportive space to engage in physical activity, build social connections, and develop lifelong wellness habits. With features tailored to the sensory and cognitive needs of neurodivergent individuals, the facility aims to remove common barriers to participation in campus fitness and recreational programs.

(The new centerpiece of the project is the new indoor arena that will seat up to 250 fans for Blazer events such as mens and women basketball. It will also allow for indoor graduations, intramural sports and many other activities.)

Congressman Daniel Webster who attended the ceremony says he remembers when Beacon College was just beginning.

“I remember when this college was a lot smaller,” says Congressman Webster. “To see the growth and Beacon College now be nationally and internationally known is a wonderful thing. This building will help impact so many students.”

This groundbreaking initiative underscores Beacon College’s leadership in championing educational and developmental opportunities for students who learn differently. The center is expected to be completed in the coming year, providing an inclusive hub for recreation, community, and growth.

Jaylen Williams, a Beacon College junior and athlete who qualified for the national track and field championships in 2025 spoke about the importance of the facility.

“Neurodiverse students are united by a shared vision for the future,” says Jaylen. “Neurodiverse learners face challenges not always visible to the world. Coming to Beacon College was a life changing opportunity. Even in my darkest moments this school has always offered a beacon of light at the end of the tunnel.”

(The new athletics facility will be something students can call their own and is much needed.)

The Intramural and Fitness Center will provide inclusive opportunities for both competitive and recreational activities, ensuring that Beacon students, many of whom thrive with structured, supportive environments, have a dedicated space to build lifelong wellness habits. More than 70% of Beacon College students participate regularly in fitness, intramural, recreation and competitive athletic programming.
