Dr. Jaya B. Kumar, MD, FASRS, is a board-certified vitreo-retinal specialist at Florida Retina Institute, known for her expertise, compassionate care and leadership in the field. She joined the practice in 2018, bringing ophthalmology training from Duke University and Cleveland Clinic.

“Every patient deserves to feel heard and understood,” she says. “Our goal is always to ease concerns and create treatment plans tailored to each individual.”

Dr. Kumar is a strong advocate for diversity in medicine, mentorship and mental health awareness. She serves as a local leader for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and helps organize the annual Out of the Darkness Walk. “It is so important for leaders to reflect their own experiences and wholeheartedly support their community.”

A mother of two, Dr. Kumar balances medicine and motherhood with strength and grace. She continues to inspire future leaders while expanding access to advanced care across Central Florida.
