The community came together in an extraordinary show of support at the Annual Scout’s Golden Eagle Dinner, raising more than $113,000 to benefit local youth through the Boy Scouts of America’s programs. The event, organized by long-time scout leader and former Lake County Property Appraiser Carey Baker, was held to support initiatives that help shape young people into responsible, community-minded adults.

The highly successful fundraiser recognized two distinguished honorees whose leadership and dedication to the community reflect the values of the Boy Scouts.

Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks was honored for exemplifying the Scout mission in his personal and professional life. Parks, who earned the rank of Eagle Scout, shared how the lessons learned through Scouting have played a pivotal role in his life and leadership.

The dinner also recognized Orlando Health South Lake Hospital as an institutional honoree. Under the leadership of Lance Sewell, the hospital has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of South Lake County residents, while also supporting community programs like Scouting that make the area a better place to live, work, and play.

“This event was a tremendous success thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, donors, and guests,” said Carey Baker. “These funds will directly support programs that help develop leadership skills, responsibility, and civic engagement in our local youth.”

The Boy Scouts of America’s programs in Lake and Sumter counties continue to serve hundreds of young people each year, providing them with opportunities for personal growth, outdoor adventure, and leadership development.
