Springstead @ South Sumter

South Sumter comes into 2023 as the heavy favorite to win the district and potentially make another run at a state semi-final. Last year South Sumter had a perfect regular season record of 10-0. They backed that up with 2 wins in the playoffs that nearly put them into the State Semi-Finals. Come 2023 and things should look much of the same. A highly experienced group of players return on the defense. Offensively South Sumter is stacked with talent. Coach Ty Lawrence has done an incredible job with this team the past few years. This will be the first competitive South Sumter game on Artificial Turf. The team switched to the artificial turf surface this year. Natural grass has proved safer but the artifical turf plays faster and could benefit a team like South Sumter. We hope for their sake there are limited non-contact injuries. That is the biggest fear with artificial turf and we hope these young athletes can stay healthy most of the year.
