LADY LAKE, Fla. — The Town of Lady Lake has officially been recognized as a Purple Heart Town, paying tribute to the brave men and women who have earned the esteemed military honor for their sacrifices in defense of freedom.

Lady Lake Mayor Ed Freeman announced the designation in a proclamation, reflecting the community’s gratitude and respect for veterans, including the town’s many highly decorated Purple Heart recipients. The Purple Heart, the oldest military decoration still in use, was established by General George Washington in 1782 to recognize soldiers wounded or killed in combat.

“This designation reaffirms Lady Lake’s commitment to honoring our veterans and recognizing the sacrifices they have made for our country,” Freeman said.

(Last year Lady Lake dedicated Snooky Park to Atticus Snooky Blanton who was a Lady Lake resident and was killed in the battle of Pearl Harbor.)

By becoming a Purple Heart Town, Lady Lake joins a nationwide movement to honor the courage and dedication of service members who have earned this prestigious award. The town encourages residents to actively participate in honoring these heroes and reflecting on their contributions.

“Our veterans have given so much for our nation, and this is one way we can show our appreciation and respect. Thank you to all who have served and sacraficed for our nation,” Freeman added.
