Lake County Invites Community To Hickory Point Boat Ramp Ribbon Cutting
The Lake County Water Authority and the County’s Office of Parks & Trails will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Hickory Point Boat Ramp complex at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. The event will occur at theHickory Point Recreation Complex boat ramp, 27341 State Road 19, Tavares.
This free event is open to the public and includes the ribbon-cutting and presentation.
The Lake County Water Authority purchased property in Tavares from the Eichelberger Trust in 1987, planning to build a park that eventually became Hickory Point Recreation Complex. Twelve boat ramps were built, and there have been many alterations and repairs throughout the years, but none like the most recent upgrades.
The newly updated boat ramps feature six new concrete ramps that are longer, deeper and are built to last for many years. These ramps also give boaters easier, centralized access to Lake Harris and the Chain of Lakes.
In 2023, Lake County Parks and Water Resources Department took over the complex’s management and operations and continued moving the project forward. Staff met the grant requirements and oversaw construction through completion, finishing ahead of schedule in December 2024.
This project was made possible by the partnership with Dredging & Marine Consultants, RUSH Marine, and it was primarily funded through a grant from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Boating Improvement Program.
