Lake County Triumphs Over Osceola County 20-10 In Cure Bowl High School All-Star Game

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The annual Cure Bowl High School All-Star Game brought together top football talents from Lake and Osceola counties, with Lake County securing a 20-10 victory in a hard-fought contest Saturday night. The showcase highlighted the skills of standout seniors from both regions, many of whom are bound for collegiate careers.

Lake County’s offense, led by Leesburg quarterback Xavier Irizarry, displayed poise and precision. Irizarry’s mobility and leadership in the pocket set the tone early, as he connected on several key throws to keep the offense moving. Irizarry, a senior known for his dedication on and off the field, demonstrated why he is considered one of the area’s top quarterbacks.

On the defensive side, Umatilla High’s Dallas Cottle delivered a standout performance at linebacker. His ability to disrupt plays and provide leadership in the middle of the field proved crucial in keeping Osceola County’s offense at bay.

South Lake High School made a significant impact with a contingent of players, including Izaiah Henderson, Alex Vila, Johens Misere, Connor Plummer, Marcel Walker, and Kaden Magloire. Each player contributed to the team’s success, whether through key blocks, defensive stops, or explosive plays. Defensive Line Coach Ben Keith of South Lake High provided invaluable support, helping to prepare Lake County’s defense for the challenge.

Despite only two days preparing for the game, Lake County certainly looked up to the challenge. Umatilla coach Eric Samuels was proud of the group for putting together an offense and defense in just two days. That is a challenge for any team but even more so considering many of the players have never played with one another but mostly against one another over the past few years.

The Cure Bowl All-Star Game not only showcased the region’s brightest young football stars but also emphasized the importance of community support and the fight against cancer, as proceeds from the event benefited cancer research initiatives.

Lake County has been a force in this game in recent years. It’s great to see all the talent that Lake County produces every year. That’s thanks to all the coaches who put so much effort in to make Lake County a great destination for student-athletes. It was also fun to see many of these athletes represent their high school’s one final time.
