Leesburg High Celebrates Girls Basketball Senior Night With Win
The Leesburg Lady Yellow Jackets conclude an incredible regular season with a dominating 64-39 victory against Mount Dora Christian Academy. The Yellow Jackets finish 20-1 on the season and now prepare for the district tournament.
At the game, Leesburg Commissioner Berry was in attendance, along with Game Day Sponsor Mollie Cunningham. Also present was Macey Campbell of the Lake County School Board District. Leesburg was really never challenged in this game. While MDCA will do well in their own district, this inter district matchup was too much for the lady Bulldogs to overcome. MDCA will also begin preparing for their district tournament coming up. This night was all about senior Macy Campbell.
The Lady Yellow Jackets may only have one senior on the roster, but Macey Campbell felt plenty of love on this evening as she was honored for her contributions to Leesburg High School. Macy Campbell has been accepted to University of Kentucky, University of North Florida, North Carolina A&T, Jacksonville University and BCU. She has a GPA of 3.5 and is the daughter of coach Sean Campbell.
The Yellow Jackets have been led by Sean Campbell and D’mani Nettles this season and have undergone perhaps the best turnaround in Leesburg Girls Basketball history. Their 20-1 season has been incredible to watch, and what a ride it has been.
The coaching staff is managing both the boys’ and girls’ basketball varsity squads. Although, at times, they have been spread thin, the results have been paying off big time for the Lady and Boys Yellow Jacket Teams.
Sophomore Saige McCloud is one of the best girls’ basketball players in Lake County. She is averaging 20 points per game and is ranked in the top 40 in the state of Florida for points scored. The Jackets also have Aniya Hester and Ariyana Hester, who have been significant contributors to the offense and defense this season.
We can’t wait to see what this team can do in the District Tournament and the FHSAA Playoffs. If they get into the FHSAA playoffs, this team is a threat to win it all this year!
