Leesburg High Hires Seth Doxey as New Head Baseball Coach

LEESBURG, Fla. – Leesburg High School has turned the page on its baseball program, naming Seth Doxey as the Yellow Jackets’ new head coach in hopes of reversing more than a decade of struggles on the diamond.
Doxey, who most recently led Lake Minneola High School to the FHSAA Regional Semifinals during the 2025 season as an assistant coach behind Dr. Kerry Whetro, brings a renewed sense of purpose to a program that finished 3-18 this past year and hasn’t posted a winning season since 2011.
“Joining the Leesburg community is truly a blessing for our family,” Doxey said in a statement. “We know the Leesburg High School baseball program carries a proud history. We’re here to honor that legacy while embracing the challenge of rebuilding—brick by brick, with heart, hustle, and purpose.”
Doxey’s arrival signals a fresh start for the Yellow Jackets, who have gone more than a decade without a season above .500—coming closest in 2015, when they finished with a break-even record.
A former collegiate player at Dakota State, Doxey began his coaching career at Portland High School before making a name for himself at Lake Minneola. His reputation for player development and team culture helped guide Lake Minneola’s deep postseason run this year, drawing the attention of Leesburg administrators eager to reinvigorate the school’s baseball identity. We can’t say enough good things about what Dr. Kerry Whetro has done for the Lake Minneola High program developing both high school and coaching talent in the area.
“Our goal is to outwork everyone and get back to the basics,” Doxey said. “Our mission is to create a program the school and community can rally behind—one that develops not only strong athletes, but strong young men of character. We’re excited to do this together, as a family, and with this incredible community by our side.”
Leesburg fans have long yearned for a resurgence. With Doxey now at the helm, the program is aiming for more than just wins, it’s chasing a cultural shift built on discipline, teamwork, and pride. With only 12 wins in the past 3 seasons, Leesburg High is a team that is hoping 2026 brings with it a much brighter outlook.
