Leesburg High Senior Jeanelle Henderson Honored With MLK Scholarship

Leesburg High School senior was among 15 local high school seniors who received The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee Scholarship at an awards breakfast at The Savannah Recreation Center in The Villages. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee awarded $60,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors. This was the 22nd annual MLK Scholarship Awards.

Jeanelle Henderson has a 4.8 GPA and is the 2025 student body president responsible for representing all 750 students at Leesburg High School. “There are often students that are too afraid to speak up or feel their voice doesn’t matter. Students notice me and come to me with their concerns, and I can help try to address those matters by sharing with administration.” says Henderson.

Jeanelle’s goal in life is to become a professional sports photographer. She would love to work for either the NBA or ESPN involved in some sort of media. In her spare time, Jeanelle spendser her free time photographing sports events. “The sports industry has a strong male stance, and it can be very challenging to develop a career as a female photographer. I do as much as I can to develop my portfolio and put my work out into the world. ” 

(Kayla Nord who is a senior weightlifter at Leesburg High School was also honored.)

Other Leesburg High students represented included senior Kayla Nord who competes for the school in weightlifting. Congratulations to all the students in our area who were awarded with scholarships.

Kyle Coppola was born in Newton, Massachusetts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications from Curry College in 2016. After traveling to Florida on a family vacation, he decided he could not get enough of the warm weather and made the move from snowy Massachusetts to central Florida 8 years ago.

For the last decade Kyle has gained valuable experience in social media content creation, marketing and sales, writing, video production, sports announcing and even broadcasting for local radio stations, such as FM 102.9 in The Villages and FM 91.5 in Massachusetts. Every year he volunteers at The Villages Charter High School as a play-by-play sports announcer for the football games as well as a public address announcer for the basketball games, including the annual Battle at The Villages Tournament.

Outside the office Kyle is a husband and father to two beautiful girls along with their cat. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his family, travel, play golf and swim. He is also a huge sports junkie and even bigger motorsports fan and loves to attend racing events when he can.
