LEESBURG, FL – Leesburg High School Boys Soccer Coach Kevin Edwards has been selected as the newest Detective in the Leesburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. This move for Detective Edwards highlights his commitment to law enforcement and his pursuit of excellence in investigative work.

During his tenure as the SRO (Safety Resource Officer) at Leesburg High School, Detective Edwards has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service. We would often see Officer Edwards at Football games in his police outfit and inside the school making sure the students stayed safe at all times. His transition to the Criminal Investigations Division is met with anticipation as the community looks forward to witnessing his investigative duties unfold in this new role.

The LPD Facebook page quoted “Detective Edwards successfully completed an arduous testing and interview process and was ultimately selected for the position. We anticipate great investigative work from Detective Edwards in the future and we appreciate all of the great work he has done while serving as an SRO at Leesburg High School!”

(Officer Edwards has been the Leesburg High School SRO. Officer Edwards will remain in the position until a replacement has been setup. Until then Officer Edwards will remain as the Leesburg High SRO.)

“Coach Edwards will remain as the boys soccer coach as long as it fits his schedule.” said Leesburg High Athletic Director Spencer Hey. We also confirmed from LPD Captain Joe Iozzi that Edwards would remain as the Leesburg High SRO until a replacement is found. “The replacement for the SRO position can take a few months potentially so Officer Edwards will remain in that position until we have a suitable replacement.” says Captain Iozzi.

(Coach Kevin Edwards recently won a district boys soccer championship with Leesburg High for the first time in over a decade! It was the first time since Kevin and his brother Kenny were players on the Leesburg High in 2013 that the team accomplished a district championship.)

Detective Edwards’s background as a soccer coach, Leesburg High School graduate and his prior experience as a SRO bring a unique perspective to his new role. “Captain Joe Iozzi of the Leesburg Police Department would go on to say “Kevin Edwards is an invaluable part of the LPD no matter what position he is in. We look forward to what he can do in our Criminal Investigations Division.” The community is certainly confident that his leadership and problem-solving skills, honed through his coaching and law enforcement career, will contribute significantly to the success of the Criminal Investigations Division.

As Detective Edwards embarks on this new chapter in his law enforcement career, the Leesburg community extends its congratulations and support, eagerly anticipating the positive impact he will undoubtedly bring to the Criminal Investigations Division.
