On June 1st, the City of Leesburg rolled out a new Teacher Incentive Program which seeks to encourage and incentivize teachers to relocate and live in the LakeFront City’s utility service territory. Based on a recommendation from the newly created Electric Advisory Board and approved unanimously by the City Commission, a two-year pilot program was created which will provide a one-time waiver of utility connection fees for any teacher who chooses to move into the service area for the first time. The incentive program is applicable for Leesburg electric, water and gas connection fees and can save the recipient up to $205 in utility costs.

The Teacher Incentive Program seeks to encourage and help with educational recruitment for Leesburg region schools because of the vital role educators play in our community. Al Minner, Leesburg City Manager said, “The City of Leesburg recognizes the importance of recruiting the best educators to our area schools as an investment into both our students and our local economy. We hope this program serves as a model for other organizations to help inspire and attract the best educators to bring their passion and purpose to Lake County Schools.”

To qualify for the incentive, you must:

1.       Be a first-time Leesburg utility customer;

2.      Reside (owner or rental) in the City of Leesburg utility service area;

3.      Provide evidence as a teacher of grades K-12; and

4.      Be employed by a learning institution located in Lake County, Florida.

For more information on this program, call the City Manager’s Office at 352-728-9786 x1100.
